Ever wonder about the infernal scent of Krampus as he’s dragging your babbies off to hell? What’s the smell of ancient Alpine evil–dirty goat stank and sooty coal, with a soupçon of Black Forest fir, wet snow, and the tangy musk of children’s fear?

Fear not! Wonder no more! These three dark indie perfumers, with a nod to Santa’s ghastly helper, have created several unique, evocative Krampus-inspired fragrances with which to titillate the senses (as if the punishing birch switches and chains were not enough!) and provide for an authentic smelling Krampusnacht celebration.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

It’s beginning to smell a lot like Krampus over at Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, our favorite purveyor of fine esoteric potions. For their Yule 2015 collection, they have brought this ever-popular scent back and it is anything but jolly!

Be good, or Krampus will toss you in a river! Sinister red musk, black leather, dusty rags, and wooden switches.

Krampus BPAL

And a BPAL bonus! Krampus’ Shadow and Krampus Chains are two sinister offerings from Black Phoenix Trading Post, via their Etsy shop. The Trading Post is Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab‘s sister site, and in addition to the archaic treasures, diabolical tschotskes, and ghoulish garb they offer, many limited editions not available on the main site can be found here, as well.

Krampus’ ShadowBirch tar, patchouli, and blackish-red musk.
Krampus’ Chains:  Black licorice and rusted musk with tobacco absolute and myrrh.

Arcana Soaps have been producing “lavishly uncommon” perfumes as well as bath and beauty products awash in Gothic sensibilities since 2003. Their delicious Krampus-inspired fragrances are part of the Winter 2014 collection, but they’re still available at Pretty Indulgent.

Come to Krampus: An intoxicating invitation to the underworld. Blackest musk, charred vanilla beans, kush, thick opium, and oudh.
Krampusnacht: Old leather, infernal smoke, vintage patchouli, cubeb, ho wood, a drop of fir oil, and a touch of brisk Alpine night air.
Krampus Nog: Eggnog with vodka, rum, sweet cream, nutmeg, and wicked amber.
Lebkuchen Krampus: Gingerbread Krampus? Yes please! Blood red musk flows through intense gingerbread, chai spices, cardamom, white pepper, incense, and sweet clove.
Ribbons & Teddy Bears: What remains after Krampus takes the children. Remnants of French vanilla and pistachio ice creams, apricot jam, sugared peach, melty chocolate, sticky candy canes, orange peels, and sweet coconut.
Schnaps mit Krampus: If Krampus comes to your house, you’d best pass him the bottle. A boozy, rummy blend of apple, tangerine, and pear schnaps over woodsmoke, labdanum, and a hint of Arcana’s Growl blend.

Madame Josephine

House of Madame Josephone

Madame Josephine‘s is an etsy shop inspired by the Victorian macabre, magic and ritual, and all of the beauty found in nature. Amongst the curios, enchantments, potions, and perfumery, there are two Krampus-inspired fragrances to be found, and I suspect they are aimed at those destined for the naughty list.

Gruß vom Krampusthe rich earthy scent of Vetiver bitten by a cold, hard lump of coal.
Dame Krampus: the rich earthy scent of Vetiver and the smoky ethereal notes of Brimstone.
